Cies Islands objective: UNESCO Global Geopark

Designing a logo that changes colours throughout the day

Nestled in the Atlantic waters of Vigo, Northern Spain, the Cíes Islands are more than just a paradise; they are a geological treasure. We had the immense honour of designing the identity for their bid to become a UNESCO Global Geopark. This wasn't just a design project; it was a deep dive into the soul of the earth.

Where science meets a creative vision

To get this right, we went back to school. We collaborated closely with a "dream team" of experts from the University of Vigo and Santiago, including geologists, archaeologists, and oceanographers. Our mission was to translate complex scientific data into a visual identity that everyone could feel and understand.

A logo that changes with the sunlight

The heart of the logo design is the rock itself. We drew inspiration from the unique textures and shapes of the island’s ancient formations.

  • The Eye of the Geopark: The logo’s eye-like shape is an invitation to look closer; to appreciate the scientific and educational wonders beneath our feet.

  • The "Living" Palette: One of our favourite features is how the brand changes. We created a colour system that shifts throughout the day, mimicking how the Cíes rocks transform under the changing Spanish sunlight, from the soft glow of dawn to the deep ambers of sunset.
